Spring 2008 Events

Dumpling Making
Global Communities students gather in the basement lounge of Dorchester Hall to fold and cook dumplings together. Of course, students were allowed and encouraged to eat their creations afterwards.

Trip to Williamsburg, VA
Students took a trip to the richly historical colonial city of Williamsburg, VA to learn about American cultural heritage.

The 2007 visit to University of Maryland's Ropes Course.

Breaking Bread Community Dinner
Global Communities works in group exercises to think about ways of solving problems within international communities. After each group performs a skit to show and solve various problems that could arise, residents enjoy a delicious lasagna dinner.

Pumpkin Picking at Sharp's Farm
Global Communities goes to Sharp's Farm to spend an October afternoon pumpkin picking.

Trip to Amish Pennsylvania
Global Communities travels to Pennsylvania to visit the Amish and learn more about their culture first hand.

International Dinner, Fall 2007
Every fall, Global Communities students host an international dinner in Dorchester Hall, cooking dishes from around the world for each other and for the many guests who come.

Speaker Sessions, Spring 2007
Guest speaker Dr. Shibley Telhami addresses first-year Global Communities students.

Cultural Explosion, Spring 2007
Cultural Explosion is an annual event hosted by Bridges Council. It combines the elements of diversity and entertainment giving the students an opportunity to represent and celebrate their heritage.

ICONS Simulation, Spring 2007

Maryland Day, Spring 2007
Maryland Day was held on April 18, 2007. This event brings together more than 400 activities, demonstrations, exhibits, performances and other events offering the community a glimpse into what makes Maryland a special place. This year Global Communities table was located at the "Global Village."

Notation Celebration, Spring 2007
At the end of spring semester each year, Global Communities celebrates students who have completed the programming, earning notations on their transcript, as well as exchange students who have participated in the program

Fall 2006 Events

DC Day, Fall 2006
At the beginning of the year, there are a number of opening events for Global Communities. One of these is a trip to DC for new students

Every fall, students organize and host an international dinner, cooking dishes from around the world and offering entertainment from different cultures.

Each fall, new students in Global Communities come together on University of Maryland's Ropes Course.

Global Communities students presented Japanese Tea ceremony.

Spring 2006 Events

Cultural Explosion, Spring 2006
Each spring, students organize Cultural Explosion, a show open to the entire campus which displays dance, music, fashion, and other performances by student groups representing a multitude of cultures.

Classroom Pictures, Spring 2006
Global Communities colloquia incude many interactive activities, guest speakers, and student presentations.
