Students
Currently Enrolled at UM:
For best consideration, submit your application by March
1 for fall semester.

Incoming
Freshmen:
Incoming Freshmen are invited to join the program and
will receive their invitations from the admissions office
in March.
Applications
received after the dates noted above will be considered
on a space-available basis.
Please
note the following points when you consider applying to
Global Communities:
- Participation
in a one-credit colloquium per semester is required.

- Global
Communities students are required to live in Dorchester
Hall (or study abroad) for the duration of the two-year
program.
- Selection
is based on experience and/or expressed interest in
international and intercultural issues and activities.
- Knowledge
of a foreign language or prior travel experience is
NOT required.
- An
admissions committee will review your application
and essay.
- Only
undergraduate students are eligible to apply.
- You
must be guaranteed on-campus housing by Resident Life
(ResLife) to be considered for Global Communities.
- There
is no extra cost involved with living in Global Communities
and Dorchester Hall.

Application Process
Step
1 - Housing:
Incoming
Freshmen:
Return your invitation response card to the University
Admission Office by the deadline noted on the card.
Remember that your admission to Global Communities is
contingent on your acceptance to Resident Life. You
will need to confirm enrollment at the University of
Maryland and apply to housing by the posted deadlines
(see https://www.sis.umd.edu/servlets/AdmitEnrollConf).
Students
Currently Enrolled at UM:
If you already live on campus, and are guaranteed
housing by resident life, submit a Room Change Request
form to Resident Life (forms are available at www.resnet.umd.edu).
If you do not live on campus, apply for on-campus
housing by going to Annapolis Hall and filling out
an application.
Step
2 - Global Communities Application:
Submit
an application to Global Communities. Click here
to apply via the web application.
To request an application by e-mail, send your request
to mlam4@umd.edu.
The most important part of the application is your
essay in which you should outline why you want to
join Global Communities and how you believe YOU
could contribute to the diversity and activities
in the program and in Dorchester Hall.
