Welcome to Global Communities!

Have you ever wondered how the world really affects you? Do you want to learn how different people and places are connected? Do you want to meet diverse people from around the world? The Global Communities Living-Learning Program could help you! Here students live with people from different cultures, and learn about the global interconnections that shape our lives.

Global Communities students are united by a common interest in the world at large, whether or not they have actually traveled internationally. They are curious about other people, places, and perspectives. They take courses together to gain the knowledge and skills needed to excel in an interdependent society and learn to communicate across cultural boundaries. They participate in globally-oriented events and activities outside of the classroom. Our location near Washington, DC gives us access to people and institutions that bring the world to our doorstep. Students live together and create a close-knit and supportive community. The program encourages students to embrace the world and seek to understand and experience it.

Global Communities is a two-year program that allows students to earn a Global Competencies notation on their transcript upon completion.  The program also provides an entryway to the new Global Studies Minors offered by the University.
